Interpreter/Translator Registration
Many foreigners live in Japan. In Mie alone, there are over 49,000 registered foreigners (as of December 2009). In order to meet our goal of creating a society in which everyone can live in with ease, we have implemented an interpreter/translator system. Please take advantage of this opportunity with your language skills and help internationalize the local area.
What kind of interpretation/translation requests are there?
- Interpretation: Interpreting for visitors that come to Mie from abroad.
Interpreting at school for parent-teacher's meeting, various consultations, etc.
- Translation: Translating pamphlets, information material, policy and ruglation related material, etc.
*Main clients: Local authorities, educational institutions, international exchange associations, etc.
As of June 2010, all interpretation/translation requests pertaining to public welfare will be accepted. However, we do not accept interpretation requests from individuals.
Language Ability Requirements
We are currently looking for volunteers who are proficient in Japanese and one of the following languages: Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Tagalog, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian. We also get requests for other languages too, so we encourage you to register if you are proficient in a language not listed above.
We thank you for your interest, but we are no longer accepting applications for English and Chinese translators/volunteers.
For those that are interested in registering, please refer to the language
requirements below to see if you quailfy.
Volunteer intepreters should be able to interpret at various information
and consultation meetings.
Volunteer translators should be able to translate texts explaining the
various rules and systems in Japan.
In addition, those interested in registering as an English translator/interpreter
should meet or exceed
the additional requirements listed below:
Eiken Jyun 1 kyu or above or the equivalent
TOEIC 800 points or above or the equivalent
Process
1) In general, translation files will be sent via email. Thus, traslators must have an email account.
2) Payments will be deposited into your bank account once MIEF receives moneyt from the client.
3) Accident insurance for interpreters will be borne by MIEF. Please note that we do not accept interpretation requests from individuals.
4) Your information and email address will be sent to the client in order for them to contact you. We ask for your understanding.
5) As of June 2010, all interpretation/translation requests pertaining to public welfare will be accepted. However, we do not accept interpretation requests from individuals.
Compensation
As of June 2010, all documents will be carefully checked by native speakers and compensation for their services are as follows.Interpretation - 1000 Yen Per Hour
Translation - 1) Foreign languages/translation into Japanese: 2000 Yen per one A4 sheet,
single sided (up-to 800 characters)
2) Native check:1000 Yen per one A4 sheet, single sided (up-to 800 characters)
In addition, any food or travel related costs.
(For food, up-to 500 yen and only if the request takes all day or begins at night)
